weekend round up 2.28 {oscar party and dresses}

chili orange kettle popcorn (recipe here) and some traditional movie theater sweets for my oscars party

champagne pomegranate 'fighter' punch

red velvet cupcakes in honor of the red carpet, my favorite part of the oscars

my two absolute favorite looks of the night: amy adams {l'wren scott} and mila kunis {elie saab}

also quite liked the pretty light colored dresses seen on michelle williams {chanel haute couture}, hailee steinfeld {marchesa} and halle berry {marchesa}

loved these two ladies classic color choices: jennifer lawrence {calvin klein} and camila alves {kaufman franco}

and my favorite look on anne hathaway of the night was this gorgeous beaded silver oscar de la renta gown.

i hosted a little oscars party last night and while i thought the actual program was quite boring we had a great time snacking, filling out our own ballots and taking in the gorgeous dresses. which was your favorite look of the night?

free people

the free people catalogue has me itching for spring. i picked up a couple of pretty pieces from their store a couple weekends ago (like this skirt) and i think i might have to head back this weekend for that pleated maxi.

have a wonderful weekend ladies!

stairway to heaven

if i had stairs in my apartment i would absolutely try and replicate the complete awesomeness of opening ceremony's stairs (first image, from their ny store). and then i would walk up and down them all day long so i could enjoy their sweet lyrics... and tighten up my bum for the summer.

i am also quite taken by the french numbered stairs. c'est beau!

two things i love

  1. lo's breezy california look with the perfect pop of purple
  2. kim's messy top knot that makes her outfit look even more effortless (despite the sky high heels)

back to the beach

{free people skirt (also seen here)}

{urban outfitters white button down shirt}

{forever21 striped hoodie}

since this last weekend was a girl's trip i didn't have my boyfriend to snap any outfit photos. but i still wanted to share some of my beachside wear. i love to use everyday pieces from my closet as cover ups. whether it's a flowy skirt, breezy white button down or nautical hoodie - all are my ideal bikini toppers. what do you like to wear poolside?

{an itsy bitsy teeny weeny green polka dot bikini}

{nothing more calming than being by the sea and sound of the waves}

{my seaside drink of choice}

{outfit post - sheer skirts and sweaters}

a chunky knit sweater and a sheer maxi seems like an unlikely combination. but after buying this bright chiffon skirt from free people i just couldn't wait for warmer weather to wear it. and something warm and cozy was the only appropriate pairing mid-february. and now that i've seen how the ladies of nyfw have been wearing the maxi mid-winter (a la yesterday's post) i'm ready to break it out again, perhaps paired with fur or leather.

ps - these pictures were taken by the lovely emma of tres awesome. click over to her blog for more chicago streetstyle. or here to see our last mini shoot.

billowing maxis

{sheer with fur}

{i believe this is the jcrew sequin skirt i've been lusting over which is sold out and $2500. sad.}

{neutral and pleated}

{paired with polka dots tights. love.}

while the collections parading down the runway are beautiful and inspiring, i am just as interested in soaking in the fashion week street style. and this year the glamorous fashionistas aren't disappointing. one of my favorite trends billowing in the ny winds: the maxi.

{outfit post - lace, feathers and moto boots}

{forever 21 lace top, urban outfitters boyfriend blazer, unknown black leggings, steve madden blazzee boots, asos feather clutch, michael kors gold watch, anthropologie necklace worn as a bracelet}

i haven't yet decided if i am cool enough for these boots. they're definitely a little tougher than anything else in my closet. so i overloaded this outfit with girly details to minimize their edginess. a taupe lace top, nude feathery clutch and big bracelet - which all also happened to be the perfect accessories for our valentines day brunch.

ps - i've recently created a facebook page and twitter account for a lovely escape so please click on over if it's how you prefer to stay in touch.

weekend round up 2.14 {and a happy valentines day!}

{the cutest vday card from the boy and a stack of my cards yet to be sent out, oops}

{crab cakes and poached eggs}

{french fries and a delicious burger}

{hot chai tea}

{some pretty printed purchases}

{thrifted vase currently filed with sunglasses}

this weekend the boy and i are forwent the fancy vday dinner out and opted for a low key sunday morning brunch instead. breakfast is my favorite meal and during the week we're too rushed to enjoy it so this was a great way to celebrate. afterwards we stopped at my favorite thrift shop and enjoyed the first sunny day here in quite awhile.

tonight we are cooking up a big valentines day dinner and i will probably talk him into watching the bachelor and gossip girl.

so all in all - a perfect couple days. how are you all spending your valentine's day?
